Bangtao Beach
Six quiet kilometres of white sand on the Andaman Sea — ten minutes from your holiday home.
The beach Phuket locals love
Bangtao Beach stretches 6 km along the northwest coast of Phuket. Unlike the crowded beaches further south, Bangtao remains largely low-key — wide, uncrowded, and backed by casuarina pines rather than rows of sun-beds. The northern half, near the Laguna resort complex, is livelier; the southern half, closer to Bangtao village, is quiet enough that you can walk for twenty minutes without passing another person.
The sea is calm and clear from November through April — ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. May to October brings larger swells and a dramatic sky; locals surf here on small boards, and the sunsets in the rainy season are extraordinary.
What to do at Bangtao
Swimming
Safe, calm water with a gradual sandy bottom. Flags are posted daily in high season. No strong currents on the main beach.
Water sports
Kayak and SUP rental at the beach. Windsurfers and kitesurfers head to Layan Cove, 2 km north, when the wind picks up May–October.
Sunsets
Bangtao faces west — every clear evening ends with an Andaman Sea sunset. The beach bars along Laguna fill up from 5 pm for a reason.
Walking
The full beach is walkable at low tide. Head north to Layan Beach, a sheltered cove that stays almost completely empty even in high season.
Beach food
Several casual restaurants and beach bars sit along the beachfront road. The local Thai joints just inland are significantly cheaper and equally good.
Boat trips
Longtail boats leave from the beach for half-day snorkelling tours. Montree can help arrange a private charter to Phi Phi or the Similan Islands.
